Equine Program Weekend Barn Assistant

EQUINE PROGRAM WEEKEND BARN ASSISTANT  

REPORTS TO: Kate Baxter (Equine Program Manager)

EMPL CLASS: Part Time (4-6 hours/week) 

DAYS: Saturday and Sunday feeding shifts (AM and PM) 

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: hourly 

POSITION PURPOSE: 

  • To assist Equine Program Manager in managing and maintaining horses, equipment, and barn facilities on weekends

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • According to schedule provided by Equine Program Manager, provide weekend horse care including but not limited to: feeding, watering, administering medications, grooming/bathing, blanketing, basic first aid and veterinary care.  
  • Maintains barn facilities and cleans stalls/paddocks as necessary
  • Occasionally assists with weekend Volunteer Days/Volunteer Groups at the barn 

CORE COMPETENCIES/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TEMPERAMENT 

  • Mature Christian, actively involved in local church and committed to their spiritual walk
  • Experience providing care to horses and/or livestock
    • Able to predict horse behavior and has knowledge of horse and handler safety 
    • Understands how to correctly care for a herd of horses and maintain high health standards
  • Strong internal work-ethic, as well as good personal character and integrity 
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and lift 50lbs.
  • Ability to follow directions and take feedback, as well as think creatively and independently

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent communication skills 
  • Experience with farm equipment
  • Valid driver’s license
